Penny Janis – Qualifications and Experience

I am a highly experienced and skilled Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years of clinical experience. As a Clinical Psychologist, I have completed an advanced level of post-graduate university training in the field of clinical psychology, followed by a substantial period of post-graduate supervised clinical practice.  Throughout my years of clinical practice, I have helped many Adelaide adult and young adult clients in their pursuit of self development and personal growth, and effectively treated a wide variety of psychological problems and mental health issues.

I am registered with the Psychology Board of Australia (Registration number:  PSY 000 1158 412).  Registration is a legal requirement in Australia to be able to practice as a Psychologist.   (It is important to note that not all therapists or counsellors are registered psychologists).  I am also a Medicare registered Clinical Psychology Provider.

Clinical experience over my 20 years of practice has been gained from working in a range of settings with adult client groups, both in the public and private sectors.  My employment background includes the following:

  • Private practice, providing Clinical Psychology therapy services to clients since 1996.
  • South Australian government organisations such as Adult Mental Health Services and Community Health Primary Health Care Services – Clinical Psychologist.
  • HIV/AIDS  (non-government sector) – providing therapy to individuals with HIV or AIDS, (many were members of the LGBTI community) as well as to their partners, family members and friends.
  • Department of Veterans Affairs – providing therapy to returned war veterans (experiencing PTSD), their partners and family members.
  • Department of Immigration – providing therapy for trauma and PTSD to refugees in detention.
  • Barossa Valley Division of General Practice – Consultant Psychology services to patients of general practitioners.
